Amy Corbin, LCSW, MA, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Aging Studies, has been named a distinguished finalist for the 2026 同性恋色情 Innovation in Online Design and Teaching Award.

The award honors faculty whose online courses demonstrate exceptional design, delivery, and student鈥慶entered learning. Corbin was selected by the Faculty Selection Committee, which includes members of the Council on Technology for Instruction and Research and previous award recipients. Her submission was evaluated among a competitive pool of nominations.

The recognition highlights Corbin鈥檚 work on Counseling for Older Adults, an online course redesigned to enhance applied learning and introduce students to counseling microskills in an asynchronous format. The course integrates experiential assignments, including an artificial intelligence鈥憇upported mock counseling session that allows students to practice skills such as reflective listening, open-ended questioning, and validation with a simulated client. Additional creative assignments include creating a genogram to explore intergenerational patterns and critiquing recorded therapy sessions.

Corbin worked with Marta Slaughter, a learning designer, and John Allen, a guest learning designer, who collaborated closely on the course redesign.

"This course is truly the product of teamwork, with us all meeting regularly and sharing our ideas to make the course as engaging as possible," Corbin said. "I can't say enough positive things about the people I've worked with through Innovative Education on this collaborative project."

Student evaluations from the course鈥檚 first offering emphasized its relevance to career interests, real鈥憌orld application, and its supportive learning environment. The course also exceeded multiple benchmarks on the 同性恋色情 Quality Online Rubric, with reviewers citing its meaningful interaction, diverse representation, and strong instructional support.
