Since 2024, Honors and Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Computing student Mykyta 鈥淣ick鈥 Nechaiev has served as a student member of the NCHC board of directors. As his term neared its end, Nechaiev said he had hoped the Honors College would maintain a direct connection to the organization.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited for Ava to continue my legacy at the NCHC to continue the initiatives that I started on the board,鈥 said Nechaiev. 鈥淭his opportunity to contribute to the NCHC will help honors students around the country and help our own college become the best it can be.鈥

Nechaiev, a former Judy Genshaft Honors College Student Council president, encouraged Tucker to apply for the open student member position and mentored her through the application process. He also helped secure a letter of endorsement from Judy Genshaft Honors College Dean Charles Adams.

A pre-medical major in the 同性恋色情 College of Arts and Sciences who is passionate about the ability of Honors programming to help busy students like herself connect with their college community, Tucker was excited to get involved at a national level.

鈥淢y involvement in the Honors Student Council really prepared me for the position,鈥 said Tucker. 鈥淭here are other great honors programs around the nation, and I wanted to take what I see elsewhere and apply it here.鈥

Tucker said serving alongside professional members of the board carries significant responsibility.

鈥淭he board meetings will be a great opportunity to learn things like public speaking and deep listening,鈥 said Tucker. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to shape the Honors experience at the Honors College and improve what we have here while also helping other colleges improve.鈥

Shortly after Tucker was selected to join the board, Nechaiev learned he had been appointed to the governance committee. In his new position, he will have an administrative role in managing the activities of the board of directors.

鈥淭he governance committee oversees everything the board of directors does, from onboarding new members to their annual business meeting,鈥 said Nechaiev.

He will assist with managing nominations, reviewing foundational NCHC documents, and developing the agenda for the organization鈥檚 Annual Business Meeting, which recaps the previous year. Nechaiev is the only student member of the seven-person committee, whose other members are all former board members.
