about the conference

In a moment of rising geopolitical tension, the threat of a nuclear weapon being used in modern warfare is no longer hypothetical. With over 12,200 warheads held by nine nations and rapid modernization outpacing diplomatic safeguards, the margin for error is shrinking fast. A single detonation today could destroy entire cities, destabilize markets, and create humanitarian and environmental crises lasting decades. Preventing this future requires informed leadership, coordinated action, and urgent investment from partners who recognize that rising nuclear risks demand immediate engagement.

Bringing together some of the world's leading experts. Cracks in the Lamp: Freeing the Nuclear Genie convenes leading scholars, practitioners, defense experts, government officials, industry partners, and students to confront these escalating nuclear risks.

While each session has its own focus, the conference as a whole is designed to:

  • Drive actionable strategies to prevent nuclear escalation in current and emerging conflicts
  • Assess how next-generation technologies could alter deterrence, verification, and global stability
  • Mobilize policy, industry, academic, and defense leaders to address the most urgent nuclear security challenges

Day 1 will examine the role of nuclear deterrence, battlefield applications and emerging technologies. Participants will engage in discussions on strategic stability, escalation risks, and the ethical implications surrounding modern nuclear capabilities.

Day 2 focused on the military applications of nuclear energy and breakout sessions, which will address the future of nuclear testing, the integration of artificial intelligence into monitoring and verification systems and the geopolitical complexities posed by rogue nuclear states.
