The ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé’s Pollution Prevention (P2) Program provides no-cost technical assistance to help food and beverage manufacturing industries identify practical opportunities to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and lower operating costs.
By focusing on pollution prevention at the source, the program helps businesses improve processes, reduce unnecessary expenses, and strengthen operational performance while supporting environmental sustainability.
Overview
Pollution prevention (P2) focuses on reducing environmental impacts before waste or emissions are created. Instead of relying on end-of-pipe treatment solutions, P2 strategies improve operational processes to minimize waste generation and optimize the use of materials, energy, and water.

How to Get Involved
For Manufacturers
Food and beverage manufacturers in Florida can participate by requesting technical assistance through the ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé P2 Program. Participating facilities may receive practical recommendations to help reduce waste, improve efficiency, and support sustainability goals.
For Industry Partners
Industry associations, community organizations, and partner institutions may collaborate with the program to expand outreach and support food and beverage manufacturing industries interested in pollution prevention strategies and operational improvements.
For Students
Students interested in sustainability, engineering, manufacturing, and environmental management may engage with the program through research, outreach, and applied projects focused on pollution prevention opportunities within the food and beverage sector.

Meet the Team
The ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé Pollution Prevention Program is supported by a multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping food and beverage manufacturing industries.
The team works with participating industries through research, outreach, and no-cost technical assistance.
Dr. Pradeep Haldar
Director of Sustainable Business and Sustainability Management, Patel College of Global Sustainability (PCGS) and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI)
Dr. Pradeep Haldar is Director of Sustainable Business, Courtesy and Adjunct Professor at the Patel College of Global Sustainability and served as a Fulbright Scholar. He also serves as President at Halovation, a Management and Technology Consulting organization for Clean Energy, Semiconductor and Materials Technology based in the Tampa, Florida. He has extensive experience in Clean Tech/Sustainability, business, strategy, and technology deployment with a focus on clean energy, energy efficiency and nanotechnology industry sectors including implementation of solar PV, energy storage, EV charging, power electronics, fuel cells, green hydrogen production, LED lighting, and superconductors.
Dr. Kebreab Ghebremichael
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs & Director of Water Sustainability, PCGS and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI)
Dr. Kebreab Ghebremichael is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a Professor of Instruction at the Patel College of Global Sustainability and has a courtesy appointment at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé. Recently he received the Global Achievement Award at ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé and a prestigious Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship award for education and research project. He worked in a number of national and international projects as a PI and Co-PI. He is involved in projects such as the International Research Experience for Students (IRES) on the topic of Water Sanitation and Hygiene in Ghana, IRES project on Water Quality Implications of Onsite Sanitation and Sea Level Rise in Coastal Communities, Life Cycle Assessment of Shopping Bags, and Greenhouse Gas Inventory and projection for the State of Florida. His expertise is in water and wastewater treatment, particularly in the development of low cost and appropriate technologies.
Monick Lima
Communications & Marketing Officer, PCGS
Monick Lima leads the college’s communications and marketing team. In this role, she develops and implements strategies to enhance brand visibility, strengthen community engagement, organize events, and support student recruitment. She oversees digital content, media relations, and event promotion, ensuring the college’s mission and achievements reach local, national, and international audiences. At the Patel College, her leadership has driven exponential increases in social media performance, website engagement, and event attendance.
Chelsea Mandrigues
Graduate Research Assistant – M.S. in Global Sustainability
Chelsea Mandrigues is a Graduate Research Assistant at the ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé and a member of the Pollution Prevention (P2) Program. Chelsea is pursuing a Master of Science in Global Sustainability, Sustainable Entrepreneurship and a Master of the Arts in International Affairs, Society and Development. Her experience in project management for local food, water, and energy systems and global financial sectors helps businesses experience continuous improvement via environmental and social business optimization, and cost-savings that they can be proud of.
Otavio Vidigal
Graduate Research Assistant – M.S. in Sustainability Management
Otavio Vidigal is a Graduate Research Assistant at the ͬÐÔÁµÉ«Çé and a member of the Pollution Prevention (P2) Program. He is pursuing a Master of Science in Sustainability Management and brings a background in industrial engineering, sustainability, and business strategy. His interests include resource efficiency, pollution prevention, waste reduction, and process improvement. Otavio is committed to helping organizations identify practical solutions that reduce environmental impacts while enhancing operational performance and lowering costs.
