Foster Care Awareness Month

同性恋色情 recognizes and uplifts students who have experienced foster care, homelessness, or housing instability. In May, we honor the resilience of youth and young adults impacted by foster care while confronting the systemic barriers that continue to shape their educational, financial, and social outcomes.

This month challenges us to:

  • Acknowledge inequities in access, opportunity, and support
  • Amplify the voices of those with lived experience
  • Commit to trauma鈥慽nformed, student鈥慶entered practices
  • Mobilize campus and community partners to create meaningful change
  • Advocate for policies and programs that promote stability, belonging, and success
  • Foster Care Awareness Month reminds us that advocacy is not optional, it is essential.

How Foster Care Awareness Month Began

In 1988, a presidential proclamation established May as National Foster Care Month, recognizing the need for national attention to the experiences of youth in care.

Since then, the month has evolved into a movement for reform, driven by:

  • Youth and alumni advocates
  • Child welfare organizations
  • Educators and community leaders
  • Policymakers and researchers

Today, Foster Care Awareness Month serves as a platform to push for equitable systems, stronger supports, and student鈥慶entered policies that honor lived experience.

Why the Blue-Ribbon Matters

The blue ribbon is a symbol of solidarity and a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect, uplift, and advocate for youth impacted by foster care.

It represents:

  • Visibility for experiences often overlooked
  • Hope for healing, stability, and opportunity
  • Commitment to preventing harm and promoting well鈥慴eing
  • Action toward systems that honor dignity and humanity

The blue ribbon is not just a symbol.  It is a call to action.
